I am mostly interested in System Administration, Programmer Analyst, and Web Developer positions. I would like to gain further experience and exposure to UNIX/Linux operating systems. I have a special interest in databases, web development, and web technologies. I would love to work in the area of standards and compliance as relates to the ADA – Section 508, WAI, etc. I would also like a chance to learn more about the technologies used in accessibility such as Braille readers, voice synthesizers, input devices, and so on.

On the computer administration side, I am considered an expert at Windows and UNIX by my peers at Indiana University and elsewhere. I possess advanced SQL skills. I have professionally served as administrator of ColdFusion, SQL, Apache, IIS, WebSite Pro, Norton/Symantec Anti-Virus, Windows NT, Windows 2000 Professional and Windows 2003 servers. I have administered Red Hat, CentOs, Slackware, Fedora and Ubuntu Linux servers. I have work-related experience with DEC VAX/VMS, CP/CMS, Novel, AIX and HP-UX, SunOS/System V/Solaris, and BSD operating systems. I have professionally administered Windows NT, Windows 2000 Professional, Windows XP Professional, SGI, Linux, NeXTSTEP, and Macintosh workstations. I know Apache, Samba, TCP/IP and DNS intimately. I have above average knowledge of security, networking, revision control systems, databases, office suites, email systems, networking, and too many other things to list here.

On the hardware side, I have experience with laser, ink jet, dot matrix and other printers. I know about and have experience with just about any peripheral you can name. I have advance knowledge committed to memory such as memory registers, IRQs, the Hayes command set, printer codes, POST codes and so forth. I have forgotten more than a lot of people will ever know.

On the programming side, I am expert at ColdFusion, XHTML/HTML, JavaScript and CSS. I am near expert at Perl and PHP – lacking only the most advanced skills. I am quite familiar with most things XML including XSL/XSLT, XPath/XQuery, Schemas and DTDs. I have programmed in BASIC, COBOL, FORTRAN 77 and Assembler for x86. I have experience with Windows Script, batch, various UNIX shells, Visual Basic, and others. I have personally been running Slackware Linux as my primary home system since 1993 and have coded millions of lines in a UNIX/Linux environment.

On the business side, I have good oral and excellent written communication abilities, excellent technical writing skills, and good interpersonal skills. I have very good customer service skills with a comprehensive background in customer service and supporting technology. I have a huge desire to gain new skills and to learn about emerging technologies. I am considered a quick study by most. I definitely possess an aptitude for problem determination and resolution and my troubleshooting ability is highly rated. My programming and management experience can attest to my attention to detail and organization. I took advantage of and attended many of the management training courses offered by Indiana University and my education shows a focus toward business. I can successfully interface, and switch effortlessly, between management and technicians with an intuitive sense of what both want and require. I have little fear of public speaking. I have experience training and supervising employees.

I classify my expertise as database driven web sites, converting legacy business applications into web applications, operating systems, and scripting languages. I can provide references and code samples dating back to the early nineties upon request. In addition, I can provide information and references on an additional fourteen years as a highly skilled automotive technician.
